Fast Facts

All college students should know that:

  • The average student can expect to graduate with an debt of $25,000.00 in student loans according to the Washington Student Lobby
  • Between the 1995 and 2005 the cost of tuition nearly doubled
  • A new edition (of a textbook) usually costs 45 percent more than a used copy of the previous edition according to the Boston Globe
  • A Government Accountability Office report found that in the last two decades, college textbook prices have increased at twice the rate of inflation
  • Look at more than the cost of tuition. A lot of times the cost of living and books, especially for in state students, is more than the cost of tuition. Take me for example, tuition per quarter is about $1,50o. If I decide to live in the dorms I would be paying about $1,200 per quarter. Books cost about $300 and then you have to count food. If you get a meal plan through your school are generally expensive as well.
  • FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid needs to be done ASAP. January 1st is the first day that you may apply. If miss the priority deadline of feburary 15th don't worry. Check the deadlines here.
